She Is So Excited To Be Baptized, She Doesn't Have Words

From Cambree King
Teaching in Hondurus

We found an investigator whose name is Cecilia. We found her a couple weeks ago and she had been taught by missionaries for quite sometime. She has read the book of Mormon twice through, which is more than many of the people here. We kind of stopped visiting her for a week or two because she wasn’t coming to church and she is always sick. Well... Sunday, Cecilia showed up in church and my companion almost started crying while she was directing the music. Cecilia is going to have a surgery in a few weeks but we got permission to baptize her next Sunday. It is truly a miracle and I am incredibly grateful that the Lord has allowed us to be the missionaries to help her. We visited her yesterday and she is so excited to be baptized, she just doesn’t have words. It has been an incredible experience.

We also have an investigator Susan who has a baptism date for March. Last week she said she was coming to church but she ended up not coming for many little reasons. This Sunday, (she had been preparing since last Monday) she and her kids were here in church. When I asked her what she thought, she said she felt terrible that she missed out last week and she will not miss another Sunday. It is so incredible to see people experience the blessings of the gospel in their lives and come to feel of the peace and love that comes from the Holy Ghost.

I Felt Warm All Over My Body, Especially My Heart

From David and Viola Ricks
Teaching in Germany

It has been a great week.  A Baptism!!!   The Baptism of Qian-Yun Huang!  She goes by Claire.  She is from Taiwan going to the University of Wurzburg.  She was baptized Friday night by Bishop Pfister.  It was a beautiful baptism and she is a clean, beautiful young woman.  The Elders tracted her out by door-knocking and have been teaching her for a long time.  She was a Buddhist---she went home in September and got permission from her parents to be baptized. Her grandma is completely against anything but Buddhism, but a cousin was baptized a while back in England and her parents thought it was okay. However, after she came back, she started to have doubts, her friends were against her Mormon ways and continually invited her to drinking parties, etc. Regular reading of the Book of Mormon, and a good Yot-Ah-Ay (initials for YSA) fellow-shipping her made all the difference.

Today she was confirmed.  After Sacrament Meeting, she wanted to tell me how she felt.  She has limited English---but very, very limited German. All of her lessons have been given in English.  She reads her scriptures in Chinese.  She said, "I want to tell you two words of how I felt. After I was baptized, I felt fresh. When I was confirmed I felt warm all over my body, especially my heart."  Nothing could have described those two ordinances better.   Before she was taught, she had never heard of Jesus Christ.  It’s just amazing how the truth rings true, and those who are prepared, know that Jesus is the Christ.  And to think that she found the truth in Germany!  The Lord works in mysterious ways.

He Answers My Prayers and Guides Me on Where to Go

From Karsten Hinckley
Teaching in Thailand

I was very amazed at this last week. We got a call Tuesday night from a lady in the office. She told us how a man was in a accident and his parents wanted someone to go and see him. Then we got a call from another person in the office about [this same man]. So we thought, “Okay, okay.  We will go see this guy right after studies…”

After  biking  about 13 Kilometers, we finally made it to the hospital. Well we found the room where this man was staying. We got to the door and didn’t really know what to do. We knocked and [there was] no answer. We knocked again and [still] no answer, so I just decided to walk in. I thought I was walking into a hotel from the look that the room had. There was another room where a man was on a hospital bed and a women sleeping on the couch next to him. So we decided to leave the room.
At this point we didn’t want to wake the man up, but we knew someone had called for us to go and see him. My companion said, “Let me write a note and we will come back when he is awake.”  I said that we should wait for a few minutes. So we waited and, sure enough, a nurse came walking down the hall to [the man’s] room. She went in and then came out a few minutes later. She looked at us and asked if we were friends with the man inside, and we said yes. She said, “Okay, they have been expecting you.”

So then the lady who was in the room came out and told us to put some masks on and to come in. We followed the lady to the room where the man was. The man in his mixed English told the women to leave the room. Elder Chris and I just stood there and waited. The man looked like he was in a lot of pain. He said, “My parents sent you here huh?” We answered, “Yep, they sure did!”

He went on to tell us all that he could remember from the past week. Traveling, playing golf, getting hot and cold, and getting medicine. So then we just talked about where we were from, how long we have been here and so on. He told us that when we talked it caused him to shake and have mini seizures. So at times we had to wait it out for him to respond.

We came to the initial question, “Eric, what can we do for you?”

He said, “My parents want you to give me a blessing.” We asked if that is what he wanted and he said yes. Elder Chris gave the first blessing and I gave the second blessing. It was such a great opportunity. We finished, talked for another minute, and went on our way.

I can’t tell you how spiritual that was. I had woke up a few days before asking the Lord where He wanted me to go. He answered my prayer by leading me to this man, Eric. I can’t tell you how important it is [to be] ready to perform something (like a blessing) on a seconds notice. It is also important that you are worthy to do such things as well. I hope and pray for this man and that he recovers. The doctors did say that he had H1N1 but then tested him again and said he had H5N1 which is not as bad. I am thankful for the Lord and that He answers my prayers and guides me on where to go and what to do.

I Realized How Big the Atonement Is

From Jonah Bench
Teaching in New York, USA

Here's an experience from upstate New York! We were at branch meeting and afterwards a sister in the branch came up to us and asked for a [Priesthood] blessing. Her husband recently passed away and she has been having a hard time with that. So we sat her down and gave her a blessing. In the blessing, she was told that she would live with her husband for all eternity and that he was waiting for her on the other side. She was blessed with a strong body, and the strength to bear the burdens she is, and will be, facing, and I can't remember the rest. But she was crying at the end and thanked us.
We were like, "Glad we could help!" and went about our way.

A couple days later, we went to visit her with her home teacher and she told us how thankful she was for that blessing and how much it helped! She said, "My husband has been inactive for a long time and hasn't been living the gospel. He knew it was true, he had the priesthood, and yet he still went inactive. But he had a lot of mental problems, because of that I have been wondering for a long time if he was going to make it! I prayed all the time really hard to find out if he was, and I never got an answer! So I figured maybe I'll get it after he dies. But then he died and I still didn't get an answer! So I figured it was a, ‘No, he didn't make it!’ I was mad at God for a while because of that, but when I got that blessing that told me we would be together forever and that he was waiting for me and I realized how big the Atonement is!”

That humbled me in a big way! To know that, through no [power] of my own, I was able to give her a blessing, to be an instrument and let God speak through me. Had I not been living right, had I maybe let a bad thought in, had I not been trying the best I could to work hard and be obedient, I would not have had the spirit with me to bring to my mind the things our loving Father in Heaven needed her to hear. I know that God loves us!
